The CavalierBy LuminosThe Old World is not without its atrocities and natural disasters, unfair odds and cruel, senseless acts. Often these terrible occurrences render families apart, with the murder of one or several members. The most common survivors of these deaths are children (even the more cruel creatures will often leave a defenseless child be). These orphans have to deal with the horror of watching their parents die each night in their nightmares, and live with the fact that they will never see their parents again. Homeless, they traverse the Old World, going from city to city, where someone is bound to take in a poor little orphan and give him food and shelter. They move on, and eventually grow older - to the point where they are not so easily accepted into stranger’s homes, often thought to be criminals. They learn to beg for or steal their food, and keep constantly on the move, running away from their horrible past. After enough time spent in enough cities, most of these orphans are used to the habits of almost all classes and races, and can get along easliy with Elves, Dwarves, and even snobbish Nobles and High Elves. They have also by this time developed a style of self-defense, as id necessary when constantly living in the streets of different cities. Since they are always on the move, the most logical choice would be a light weapon, so they favor swords and daggers above all else. Their easygoing carefree attitude, assumed to hide their true tortured emotions, has cased them to be dubbed "Cavaliers." They are always quick with a joke, often closer to biting sarcasm, and seem to laugh at even the most grave of situations. Cavaliers carry that carefree attitude into battle with them as well, often seeming not to notice when they are taking on impossible odds. In reality, this behavior is akin to a Trollslayer’s, i.e. he wishes to die in battle. For some reason, though, he always seems to have a stroke of good luck at just the right moment, as if his defiance of death casts an aura about him...
Starting as a CavalierThe Cavalier has all the same stats as a Witch Hunter, except for Wounds and Skills. He starts out with 1D6+7 Wounds and gains an extra D6 wounds each time the Witch Hunter’s profile calls for more wounds (Levels 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10). The Cavalier gains a Skill whenever the Witch Hunter’s profile calls for more Faith (Levels 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10).Weapons The Cavalier begins the game with a sword causing normal damage. He will only ever use swords and daggers, but he will not use a Great Sword or a Broad Sword, as these are too heavy. The Cavalier may not use any projectile weapons other than Crossbows. Armor The Cavalier wears a Leather Jerkin granting him +1 Toughness. The Jerkin is destroyed if the Cavalier is reduced to 0 Wounds. He will never carry a shield. The Cavalier may wear any armor as long as it does not cause any Movement restrictions. He will not wear a Warhelm. Equipment The Cavalier starts out carrying 1D3+3 Provisions and a Lucky Talisman (see Treasure card). Starting Skill - Swordsman The Cavalier uses a unique two-handed sword fighting style with one-handed swords for better control. If he uses both of his hands when wielding his sword, he gains +1 Weapon Skill. Gold The Cavalier has the same rules for carrying gold as the Trollslayer. Lucky Bastard The Cavalier has an inexplicable aura around him, and everything seems to go his way. His Luck total is replenished in each adventure AND in each Settlement. Treasure The Cavalier may use any Treasure available to the Barbarian, within his Weapon and Armor limitations. Settlements The Cavalier may visit the Armorer, Fletcher, Weaponsmith, Animal Trader, General Store, Alehouse (2D6), Alchemist, and Fighting School. He may also visit the Gambling House, and when rolling for profit he can use any Luck points he has to add to his dice roll rather than just re-roll. Training Cavaliers are most comfortable in cities, and will only train there. They will undoubtedly be able to charm one Warrior or another into training him each time he is ready to go up another battle-level. Usually it is an Imperial Noble, but sometimes he can even talk his way into having an Elf Ranger or Wardancer show him a trick or two! Skills (roll 2D6)
